Legrek Parond is a Jamaican-American Singer, author, and CEO, known for blending music, storytelling, and multimedia innovation into a singular artistic vision.
He is the President & CEO of Troomill Inc., a New York-based creative media and technology enterprise, and the founder of Larthfurd University of Theology.
Born on July 29, 1982, Parond was raised between The Bronx, New York, and Portmore, Jamaica, an upbringing that deeply shaped both his musical sound and lyrical identity. His musical foundation began at the age of eight when he performed in a Christmas cantata at Miracle Open Bible Church in Jamaica. He later developed his vocal abilities through respected musical ensembles including the Hydel High School Choir, Bronx Bethany Chosen Choir, Grace Baptist Church Choir of Mount Vernon, and the Kuumba Singers of Harvard College.
As an artist, Parond’s work often combines introspective lyricism, cinematic storytelling, motivational themes, and elements of hip-hop, inspirational music, spoken word, and contemporary urban culture. His music and writing frequently explore perseverance, ambition, spirituality, identity, and transformation — themes influenced by his personal journey through adversity and resilience.
In addition to music, Parond has worked as an entertainment journalist, author, film creative, and entrepreneur. At sixteen years old, while serving as Deputy Head Boy at Hydel High School in Jamaica, he became a freelance entertainment journalist for the Jamaica Observer, interviewing internationally recognized figures including Eve, Kirk Franklin, Michael Lee-Chin, and Lara Dutta.
Despite experiencing years of homelessness and financial hardship, Parond continued developing creative projects in music, literature, and media. His life experiences later became the basis for his memoir From Harvard to Homeless and continue to influence his artistic and entrepreneurial vision.
Today, Legrek Parond continues expanding his work across music production, publishing, film, technology, branding, and fashion through ventures including Troomill Music Entertainment, Troomill Publishing, Troomill Movie Studios, Zipnotch AI, and Vartiar Minenchy.

“Singing does something to me. I don’t care if I’m 50 years old or 105 years old — I’ll find some wedding to sing at, I’ll find a birthday party, a small gathering, a church service, or even a street corner if I have to. Music has always been more than entertainment to me; it is emotion, healing, storytelling, and purpose wrapped into melody. When I sing, I feel alive in a way words alone cannot explain. It becomes a beacon of inspiration not only for others, but for my own soul. Through every lyric, every harmony, and every performance, I want people to feel hope, joy, resilience, and possibility. Music transcends race, status, and circumstance — it unites humanity. Whether through singing, songwriting, rapping, or producing, my passion is to create music that uplifts the world, touches hearts, and leaves people better than I found them. Even long after titles, accolades, and accomplishments fade, I believe the gift of music will remain one of the purest expressions of who I truly am.”
“Music is not just something I do — it is part of who I am. As a rapper, songwriter, and music producer, I have always been fascinated by the power of rhythm, storytelling, melody, and emotion. Creating music gives me an indescribable feeling of freedom and purpose. Whether I’m writing lyrics late at night, crafting beats in the studio, layering harmonies, or recording vocals, every moment feels alive with creativity.
I grew up inspired by legendary artists and classic albums that shaped both my sound and my perspective on life. The soul and honesty of Lauryn Hill, the groundbreaking creativity of Kanye West on The College Dropout, the lyrical brilliance of Nas on Stillmatic and God’s Son, and the timeless influence of The Fugees deeply impacted me as an artist. I was equally inspired by the musical genius of Stevie Wonder, the spiritual and revolutionary energy of Bob Marley, and the legendary artistry of Michael Jackson.
As a producer, I love building sound from nothing — turning emotion into drums, melodies, basslines, and atmosphere. I enjoy helping other artists discover their voice and bringing creative visions to life through music production. To me, music is bigger than entertainment. It is inspiration, healing, expression, culture, and legacy. My goal is to create timeless music that motivates people, uplifts communities, and connects with listeners around the world through authenticity, passion, and creativity.”

FAQs
Do you think 44 is too old to pursue a music career?
To be soberly honest with you, I do feel that way sometimes as a performer. Not generally, but there are moments when pursuing music while simultaneously spearheading so many business initiatives can feel like swimming in deep water surrounded by sharks. It can be intimidating.
That said, I want to state unequivocally that I have tried to let this music pursuit go, and I simply cannot. Music has been a lifelong passion. I consume a great deal of it, and sometimes I have to be very intentional about giving my ears a break—even from my Bose headphones.
The truth is that becoming a recording artist was one of the reasons I dreamed of coming to America. I became a United States citizen through my adopted mother at the age of eleven, and I first arrived in New York City on Thursday, July 9, 1992. Looking back, I cannot fully explain why it took me so long to complete an album. There were seasons of doubt, distraction, fear, and competing priorities. However, it no longer serves me to dwell on what did not happen.
What matters now is moving forward. Rather than ruminating on the past, I am focused on completing the music, releasing the albums, and finally giving life to a dream that has remained with me for decades.
Who is Legrek Parond?
I would describe myself first and foremost as an innovator. I am naturally analytical, strategic, and deeply introspective. As an INTJ and Enneagram 5w4, I enjoy studying systems, identifying patterns, and thinking several steps ahead.
For much of my life, I felt as though I was living from day to day. I had ambitions and dreams, but I did not always have a comprehensive roadmap for achieving them. In recent years, however, I have become much more intentional about planning my future.
One example of this was the creation of an extensive personal strategic plan spanning hundreds of pages. Within it, I examined everything from my guiding philosophies and long-term aspirations to business ventures, financial objectives, projected purchases, and detailed analyses of where I hope to be over the next ten to twenty years. The process forced me to think beyond immediate circumstances and begin designing a deliberate vision for my future.
Whether through music, writing, entrepreneurship, or education, I am constantly seeking ways to create, build, and leave a meaningful legacy. At my core, I am someone who believes that vision without action is merely a dream, and that extraordinary outcomes often begin with the courage to think differently.
Do you think your debut album at 44 will be challenging to market when compared to if you had released it at 23?
Perhaps. However, I do not spend much time dwelling on the “could have, should have, would have” scenarios. I can say that emphatically. At this stage of my life, I try to focus on gratitude and acceptance rather than regret.
Looking back, many of the fears and hesitations that delayed my musical journey make far more sense in retrospect. For a long time, I endured periods of homelessness and significant financial uncertainty. Experiences like those can leave lasting effects. They can make ordinary setbacks feel catastrophic and transform what should be viewed as learning experiences into sources of intense anxiety.
One of the greatest challenges I have had to overcome is fear itself. For many years, that fear prevented me from developing my vocals at a professional level or committing fully to recording an album. It was not a lack of passion; music has always been a central part of my life. Rather, it was the apprehension that often accompanies prolonged hardship and instability.
There is no denying that the music industry has traditionally been youth-driven. Yet there are also countless examples of artists who achieved major milestones later in life. Killer Mike won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album at nearly fifty years old. Nas earned his first Grammy after decades in the industry. Many of today’s most influential artists, including Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, and Drake, are either over forty or approaching that stage of their careers.
The industry has evolved. Audiences today are often more interested in authenticity, storytelling, and genuine connection than they are in age alone. I believe younger listeners are willing to embrace artists from different generations if the music resonates with them.
Would it have been easier at twenty-three? Perhaps. But I am forty-four now, and that is the reality I embrace. I cannot change the timing of my journey, but I can control how much effort, dedication, and authenticity I bring to it. My focus is not on when I should have started. My focus is on creating the best music I possibly can today.
